It was a difficult project for me because I had to learn bookbinding for the first time and believe me; it is not so easy as it looks. Although it appeared seemingly comprehensible, I was faced with one of the most complex and time consuming challenges of bookmaking, but it was great for me and I liked how it turned out. Tom Tor’s Black Clouds

TomTor’s Black Clouds was an experimental design book based on the invasion of the Khmer Rouge (the red army) into Cambodia. Using letterpress and copy machine, these pages broke all the rules and discipline of design that I learned from my academic days. This book later inspired me to work on “1975”.

In creating the very first version of an uppercase typeface that contained both a rounded square and an extra bold multiple of two for display faces only, Kampuchea is now available in two weights- extra bold and ultra black. Designed on a grid, it works best at 24-point font or larger and is at its sharpest at 24-point intervals. If you are interested in purchasing multiple licenses please contact me.

GreenDay 2037

Green Day is a simple environmental movement to provide a new or renewed conscientious awareness in recognizing the need and occasions for improvements. I was commissioned and invited to participate in a conference at Ikejiri Institute of Design in Tokyo, Japan. Concepts were shared at this Design Pitch, where 11 outstanding creators participated and presented their ideas based on the theme: “The Green Landscape in 2037.”

The green ad campaign that I designed, consisted of a 15 set of FSC compliant postcards, poster and a 1.14 second promo reel. Each set has 15 postcards with clever messages on various ways that one can make a difference. With the use of snail mail and hi-tech pod casts to spread the word, I continue to support their efforts in making the world a better place. In addition to the artistic side of being creative, a humanistic approach of doing projects that are more than commercial oriented is my philosophy in life.
